TRUCK DRIVER

Truck drivers drive heavy trucks to transport goods and materials over urban, interurban, provincial, and international roads. They are employed by transportation, manufacturing, distribution, and moving companies, job services agencies, or they may be self-employed. Shunters who move trailers to and from loading docks within trucking yards or lots are also included in this base group.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Plan a route and read a road map
  • Perform vehicle systems inspection
  • Know and apply Quebec roadway regulations
  • Keep complete control of the vehicle at all times, in all climatic and geographical conditions
  • Provide efficient customer service
  • Watch over and protect goods
  • Ensure cargo is secured
  • Handle goods, or assist in handling goods
  • Update various logs

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Have at least 36 months of driving experience (class 5 licence – passenger vehicle)
  • Have no more than 3 demerit points on current driver’s abstract
